Bodies Of Expression

Tattoos.

Love them.

Crave them.

Bodies of Expression.

I can't help but stare when i see a burst of colors forming a figuration of art on someones body. Be i in the streets, on the train, in a store, it  doesnt matter i must simply tap them on their arm and tell them " I love your work " and if time permits, and if the owner of the body art is a fanatic like me we will fall into a discussion of the tattoos meaning, reason, application.. etc and so forth. 

Tattoos.. maybe one of the earliest forms of self expression.. be it in ancient egyptian ritualistic marks to Japanese Yakuza body suits (( Irizumi )) it has always been a reflection of self. A story of sorts.

The Yakuzas tattoos history amazes me.. the full body suits where an expression of their secret life as organized crime bosses. Affiliation to their clan. Though in their daily attire of button ups and suits you could see no evidence of these beautiful colorful pieces of art as they were dead give aways of affiliation and tattos were culturally frowned upon. But they were some of thee most stunning technics and works. Full of detail, color, and meaning..

I fall into this style of tattooing.. i love the element of surprise so most all my tattoos can be covered in a t shirt and shorts. Its like each tattoo is a revealing piece of me and who i am in my entirity so  i do not feel comfortable in just anyone making conclusions of me because of my pieces of art.. or more so, i am not the type to open up to just anyone.  i live in a veil of mystery so to see my tattoos is to see inside me, my mind, my heart and soul.

So with every idea that pops into my head that seems suitable to be placed forever on my canvas  i fall into deep thought, debate, and contemplation of what this piece of art means to me? What is the reflection of my persona ? How is this a vital part in my story ? What brought me to this point where i feel as though this is an adequate expression of who i am, who i want to be, and who i want the world to see ?

Every tattoo on my body i feel is an expression of my life.. a connection to my soul visable to the universe. If you want read me, undress me.

Now i had peeped OddFutureWolfGang (( OFWG )) a while ago but they faded into my memory as a glimpse of some new music i picked out of somewhere that was vaguely interesting but could likely be a one time hype..

Then they were recently brought back to my attention out here in NY by a friend.. and its aite.. mostly production wise.. Some of their attempts at being " Odd " seem a bit contrived and forced to me but i wont judge till i see a real body of work.. They are very creative set of young men, but i just dont see that certain appeal i look for just yet..

None the less they introduced me to..
Frank Ocean.

The singer of their musical family whom has some high credits to his name already. Under the penmenship of Christopher "Lonny "Breaux he has written for Justin Bieber, John Legend, and Brandy among others in the past couple of years. And tho he was signed to Islanf Def Jam, lets just say things are not going as they should have.

On March 1st Frank released his debut album for free through his tumblr account and took to twitter to make his disdain for the labels way of handeling him and his career more then apparent. Further showing why major labels are crumbling around us today.

Is not your typical R&B album.. crooning over a few heavy pop hits such as " Single Ladies " and " Umbrella " he adds a touch of eclectisim covering songs like Coldplays " Strawberry Swing " and MGMTs " Electric Feel " (( a personal fav of mine ))

Frank is unapologetically blunt, raw, and passionate. Not allowing himself to be confined to one genre in R&B. And just becuase hes the singer dont for one second think hes making soft music.. sorry but i dont see any baby making going on to Nostalgia, Ultra.. but thats a good thing. We dont need another drone artist that spits out what the masses desire because its simple to understand. Frank is bring a sense of art back to R&B. (( Think Kanye )) And i for one can greatly appreciate that. With songs like " Lovecrimes " im falling for Mr. Ocean.. The Nicole Kidman monolouge from Eyes Wide Shut under the song is ingenius.. perfect accessory to the lyrics. like poetry. Nothing turns me on like a creative mind. Then cuts like

 " Novacane " where he remenisce over sharing a bowl in a blue blong with a porn star dreaming of being a dentist at Coachella. This is not your typical rhythem and blues music.
