CROSSOVER : from http://fewbefeu.wordpress.com/ (( my more personal blog ))
So..
When did music become about a gimmick and not talent..
When did it become okay to strip away all the art of expression and dress it in glitz, plastic, and forged " swag " (( I won't abuse the word style.. I refuse ))
See these days its the same base concept being reiterated from niccas n they coka game n fuckin ripnuts or broads talking bout they pussy n being bad..
What happen to the real story telling in a LYRACIST form..
Full sentences and complete thoughts evoked in word play..
Pictures painted on your brain so vividly that you see the movie in your head..
Provoking your thoughts..
Or,
Touching your heart..
Its like there is so little substance in " hip hop " these days.. (( Wait. Pause. Scratch that * in " MAINSTREAM hip hop )) So yes..
Why does it seem that more often I feel like commending the producer because the beat is just crazy insane.. And sometimes even then, I can't do that.. But somehow this song is flooding the radio and TV.. I just don't get it..
Its like it hit over nite..
We still have our classic artists who keep the game alive as veterans.. But I really miss finding a new jewel.. A new voice.. A new Artist..
Because having a song in the top ten and a following does not make an artist.. People have been so influenced by the mass media that they devour whatever they are being fed and told is " in " or " hot "
And to see this in the state of hip hop is deeply saddening..
Thus making meh #antiradio like I'm #antiswag
Because all that comes out of the radio is noise.. Not music.. Not art.. And music can't be music if its not art.. In my opinion..
Where are the Jay-z n Nasirs of the new millennium.. ? The tribes called quest ? The common and kwelis ? The outkasts ? The Bustas ? The Kims ? The Foxies ? The Remy mas ?
I won't dare ask for another Tupac nor Biggie because they are in leagues all they own.. And I don't want a replica nor replacement.. Let them live in infamy
Now I see seeds of hope in artist like Lupe Fiasco, B.O.B., and J.Cole..
They are blessed with the art of story telling and I can only hope the mainstream can embrace the true talents and art that they provide..
(( Although wit Lupe a few years n 2 albums in the game still isn't the household name he should be ))
.. It makes me feel good n fills my soul to know that the art of Hip Hop is not dead.. Its just in a drug induced coma state of mind.. Living on life support of some of the best to ever do it..
HipHop was a beautiful baby.. And rebel teen.. But here in its most important years it seems that it is being sucked up by the glitz of the " good life " and losing its substance.
Its become Jaded..
.. But no matter all the fluff n fillers of the industry I still love Hip Hop..
For what it truly represents.
